Vist to the Budeiberget nature reserve with Geir and Elida from Dokkadelta Wetland Center. Here the students got an introduction on forestry in Norway and the connection to wetlands. Task for the students to answer; How is the old man`s beard/ Dolichousnea longissima/ huldrestry protected in Norway and what kind of habitat does this lichen prefer?

We also made a stop in Dokka to see the freshwater pearl mussel, Margaritifera margaritifera on our way back. Endangered on the IUCN Red list.

Dokkadeltadays – collaborative project with Dokka Upper Secondary School, Dokkadelta Wetland Center and Lands museum. The students learned about the historical use of the wetland with fishing and timber transport and the biological diversity of the delta. There was four practical working station during the day: collecting fishing nets, a guided boat trip with water samples, a water insect identification station and a fish anatomy station. The school’s chef also prepared a delicious fish soup served at the location.

The students started the day with learning about why we ring birds, what kind of information it can give and how this is an important method to evaluate the sucess of a nature restoration project. Also an introduction of what the center does to protect the bird Vannelus vannelus (Vipe, Northern Lapwing, Abibe) was given. What kind of challenges Vannelus vannelus has in the three countries Norway, Portugal and France, and what kind of measures has been done to protect this bird in the three countries, was also discussed.
After lunch we did a field trip and practical work with removing the invasive plant lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus) at a river bank.
29.05 Mountian hiking with Finn Audun from Lands museum, with focus on impact of the biodiversity from the dam and climate effect on the biodiversity in the mountains.
30.05
On the last day of the project, brilliant Portuguese and Norwegian students presented what they had learned to the mayors from Søndre og Nordre Land. We hope the youth in the project will spread their knowledge with practical lessons from all three countries about why and how wetlands can be restored.
Finn Audun from Lands Museum also gave us an introduction on his project “Agenda wetland”, another school project with us and fire upper secondary schools, including Dokka videregående skole. Elida from the Wetland Center gave an introduction of how the center restore wetlands in Norway.
