The main purpose of bird ringing is to collect biological data that can contribute to an appropriate conservation and management policy for bird populations. Bird ringing provides data about migration, wintering areas, the dispersal of juvenile birds, movement patterns for non-migratory birds, lifespans etc. The Wetland Centre has so far not systematically performed bird ringing in the whole delta area, but has just used bird ringing to provide an opportunity for the general public to see birds close up. Our two bird ringers are A licensed; this means that they can apply rings to all our bird species and can use any legal method of capture. We can offer our expertise to research and management projects.
